No idea what is going on here!

Handmade batik from Yogyakarta..

In '96 we worked and travelled for a year in Australia & New Zealand.
Picking apples, tomatoes, zucchinis and butter squash working the nightshift in a carton box factory, being a garbage man in Melbourne...etc. Some amazing jobs and working with amazing people;-)
On our way back home we spend two months in Indonesia and in Yogyagarta we did a one day batik course. It is just one day, so most people make a small batik piece.
But Barrie wanted to make a big one.. and this is what came out!
We thought we lost it, but  found it again yesterday:-)

Documentary time!

No Royalty television for us yesterday.. I think we are the only ones! 

But we did see two pretty amazing documentaries. 

The first one: Bill Cunningham New York (2010)

This one realy moved me and I'm not realy sure why..

Bill Cunningham (84) is a fashion photographer for the New York Times.

He photographs people in  the streets of Manhattan every day!

He lives in a tiny apartment surrounded by archives full of his mostly unpublished negatives..

A must see this documentary!

The second one: Herb & Dorothy (2008)

Herbert (1922) & Dorothy (1935) Vogel, two art collectors who passionately love art

He worked at the post office, she worked at a public library..
They managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history!

In 1992, they decided to give the entire collection to the National Gallery of Art because it charges no admission, doesn't sell donated works and they wanted their art to belong to the public!
A must see as well..

We are working on a great new project with Pascale from
Stijlburo Pascale Kouthoofd.
Pascale found this lovely vintage linen from Hungary.
We've screenprinted these two tiny designs on them.
And this weekend the final step for this linen will take place:-)

Side by Side

For almost one hundred years there was only one way to make a movie..
Film..

We just watched the documentary Side by Side produced by Keanu Reeves.
He interviews directors, cinematographers, producers, technologists,editors and color graders
about the revolution in filmmaking!

The big change from film to digital..!

If you love film and love to know a bit about how they are made, it is well worth a watch!

Childhood memories..

My parents cleaned out the attic and stumbled upon some of our childhood clothing from the seventees!

I loved these clothes and remembered them straight away when I saw them..:-)

Especially the top with the sailing boats (top one) used to be a big favorite!
